Blue Bayou Restaurant

March 1967

The Blue Bayou is Disneyland's premier dining location. Guests sit at elegant tables alongside the waters of the Pirates of the Caribbean, where they can hear the recorded sounds of crickets, occasional distant screams of guests going down one of the ride's flumes, and the cries of anguish from guests just about to board a boat when the ride goes down.

The food is Cajun in style, so everything is spicy. Even the water. This is handy since the restaurant is so dark that it is difficult to see what you are eating and may have to locate your food by smell alone.

Food, atmosphere, and service are generally excellent. You may be lucky enough to be able to hear a jazz band playing in the balcony overlooking the restaurant, or be present when a surprise invasion of the "pirates" from the adjacent ride takes place. After an invasion, watch for "bodies" floating in the water near your table.

During the annual Pirates: Spring Break in the Caribbean ride makeover, the Blue Bayou also undergoes a transformation. A dance band plays from the balcony, alcohol is served to guests over twenty one, staff wears shorts and cut-off t-shirts, only pizza and fried foods are served, and the restaurant stays open until four in the morning.
