After Hours

Disney after hours -- Click to enlarge

After its gates close and the last teenager hiding in a bathroom has been captured and ejected, Disneyland undergoes a startling transformation. Teams of maintenance workers, some of them with diving gear so that they can work on water-based attractions, spread through the park, touching up paint, maintaining machinery, and covering up evidence.

At one time, maintenance workers were joined by cleaning crews who scoured the park for refuse missed during the day or scattered by guests who stopped to do some last-minute littering on the way out the gate. These days, the more mundane sweeping chores are handled by Roomba vacuuming robots (see photo), specially manufactured for Disney by the iRobot corporation. Disney is also the largest purchaser of iRobot's military robots, although our requests for more information on why this might be have remained unanswered.
