Actual true post: Win a skull juju!

Thursday, September 11th, 2014

Ever have so many Disneyland skull jujus (juji?) that you didn’t know what to do with them? Neither have we. In fact, we know exactly what we are going to do with these beauties — give them away! That’s right, even though these are currently selling on eBay for $50-$100, we’re going to send them to lucky readers absolutely free of charge!

Disneyland skull juju

Here’s the deal: For some reason, we’re having trouble getting buzz going for our new book, That’s Not At Disneyland! We’ve emailed bloggers and podcasters, sent out review copies, handed out copies at Disneyland, and more, but nothing’s quite caught on. That’s why we’re asking for your help and offering a handy Disneyland skull juju or two as prizes for those who help us the most.

To win a juju, you just need to do three things:

  1. Help us sell some books by blogging, tweeting, sharing, facebooking, posting, advertising, or just plain talking about That’s Not At Disneyland! Whether you tweet to a thousand followers or just to one person who goes on to promote the book (on a podcast or something, for example), it’s the results that matter. Heck, if you just want to order a couple of cases and give them out for Halloween, that’s good enough for us!
  2. Let us know what you did. Send an email to liar@disneylies.com with all the juicy details.
  3. After the close of the contest on October 31 (we need lots of time so we can see sales figures), be randomly chosen from among the people who (in our purely subjective judgment) either helped the most or helped the most creatively, and we’ll send you a shiny(ish) Disneyland skull juju (along with the envelope that accompanied it)!

But didn’t we say there were two skulls available? Yes! If we manage to sell at least 200 copies of That’s Not At Disneyland! before the deadline, then we will give skulls to two people who helped us instead of just one. Hooray!

To help you promote the book, here are a couple of links you will find handy:

Any questions? Post them in the comments of this post (or email us if you prefer) and we’ll answer as soon as we can.

Thanks again for the assistance!

Special Guardians screening

Monday, August 4th, 2014

Over the weekend, Disney held a special private screening of their new hit film Guardians of the Galaxy in the London Zoo’s raccoon habitat. Said an unlikely representative of the film’s producer Kevin Feige:

We did most of our filming in London, and we thought it only right that we screen the film for the wonderful, intelligent rodents who inspired one of the film’s standout characters, Rocket Raccoon.

For security and anti-piracy reasons, no humans were invited to either this screening or to a second private screening held in California for a stand of ancient redwoods.

A third screening was held for one of Rocket’s creator, Bill Mantlo, who is currently hospitalized.

Said a representative of the production company:

We thought that would be nice, too.

April Fool’s Day at Disneyland

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014

As long-time readers of this blog know, Disneyland plays a prank on its guests every year on April Fool’s day. It might be as simple as mixing up the heads on costumed characters (who can forget Cruella de Duck or Mickey the Pooh?) or as complicated as running Splash Mountain backwards (so that it dries guests off).

This year, Disney has gone to great lengths to bring guests a resort-wide prank of epic proportions! Pipes and special, custom-designed sprinklers have been installed on the roofs of every building in the resort so that, at the flip of a switch, torrential rain will pour from the sky! Even though the rain will be fake (it will be municipal water, not rain water), park shops will join in the fun by selling ponchos, umbrellas, and commemorative water bottles.

Update: Since we initially wrote this post, it has come to our attention that some elements of Disneyland management are not convinced that this harmless prank will be well received. Because of this, the latest reports are showing that Disneyland will test the system before park opening but will not have a fake rainstorm during the day. There is, however, a 60% chance they will create a “storm” late in the evening.

Frozen reminder

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

This is a reminder to all those who pre-ordered Frozen on DVD or BluRay from Amazon. As a special promotion, Amazon is packing all day-of-release copies of the film in dry ice. Dry ice is a fun, novel method of packing shipments that can cause serious burns and is often fatal if swallowed. Enjoy!

The Postcard Project

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014

We are hard at work on a new DisneyLies book (this one created in conjunction with another website that shall, for now, remain nameless), which makes our always erratic posting schedule even more erratic.

We plan to start something new soon — posting pictures of Disneyland and Disney World postcards that have been sent through the mail, along with annotations or other commentary from our stable of historians, archivists, psychics, and random individuals found along the street who are willing to comment on postcards for money.

If you have one, many, or more postally used Disney-related postcards in a drawer, box, closet, dumpster, pants pocket, ancient vase, wall safe, or half-eaten sandwich that you would like to submit for insightful (sic.) misinterpretation, please e-mail liar@disneylies.com for instructions on how to unload them on us.

Actual true post

We are breaking out of lie mode for a quick news item: The “The Walt Disney Birthplace Preservation Project” on Kickstarter has only a few hours to go and is desperately short of its goal. It would be awesome if you could stop by and pledge to support the project (particularly if you’re a billionaire Disney fanatic — if you pledge hundreds of thousands of dollars, I bet they’d send you an extra-cool t-shirt or something).

Make your own Waltdizna! shirt

Monday, November 12th, 2012

Ever since we posted this photo…

We’ve been inundated with requests for information on where massive Disneyland + Big Bang Theory fans can purchase their own awesome Waltdizna! T-shirt. Well, we don’t currently sell the shirts, but we’ve decided to make the artwork available to any of you who want to make their own shirt.

To make your shirt, download the art using the “Waltdizna! Art” link below and send it to the T-shirt shop of your choice. Then send us a photo of yourself wearing your new shirt and we’ll post it online so that you can be the envy of all!

Now we’re going to go back to work on the new, heavily illustrated DisneyLies.com book — 396 Pure, Unadulterated, Dyed-In-The-Wool, 100% Made-Up, Completely Fake Disneyland “Facts” — which will be available for purchase at the beginning of December.

Enjoy!

Rude Tiki Bird meme

If we’re talking about Disney memes, we have to be thorough and mention the Rude Tiki Bird meme. Sorry about that.

SBCW mini movie

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

Wow! The response to our first mini movie was so overwhelming that we went back to the park and did another — this time of the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough. We have to admit, experiencing the attraction this way is much less crowded, takes less time, and is much more thrilling!
