About.com recently posted a list of what it considers to be the 10 best attractions at Disneyland. In the interest of saving you from all the extra clicking that would be involved in you checking out the list on their Web site, we are reproducing it here (with occasional editorial adjustments for space or to completely change the meaning).
So, without further ado, we present the 10 Best Attractions at Disneyland!
- Singing along with “Welcome to the Jungle” on the Jungle Cruise.
- Standing near the entrance to Critter Country and watching the Splash Mountain flume to see if anyone lifts their shirt for the camera.
- Trying to catch people disposing of loved ones on the Haunted Mansion.
- Riding Pirates of the Caribbean and noting all the things that were better they way they used to be.
- Mercilessly heckling tourists who call the Matterhorn “Magic Mountain.”
- Buying chicken at the Stage Door Cafe, eating it in the Enchanted Tiki Room, and hoping the birds don’t notice.
- The free emotional counseling after you get stuck on “it’s a small world.”
- Wandering around Tomorrowland, speculating about what the Peoplemover track might be good for some day.
- Swimming out to Tom Sawyer Island and wondering what diseases you may have caught.
- Getting Mom to shell out for a churro and then whacking your little sister with it.
P.S. We’ll send a free copy of Liar’s Guide to Disneyland to the first reader who posts a comment listing all of the attractions that the experts at About.com named incorrectly on their site. Just post your comment and drop us a line (through the contact form) with your address so we can send you your book!
Of the ten attractions listed on the about.com page, eight of them exactly match the name listed on disneyland.com. The other two differ only slightly: Toy Story Mania should be Toy Story Mania! (exclamation point on the end), and it’s a small world should be “it’s a small world” (in quotes).
Either someone cleaned up the about.com page or I am missing something. Probably the latter. 🙂 Anyway, I don’t expect to be the winner of the book, but I wanted to let you know that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog since I discovered it last week.
Marc — very close! There’s one mistake you didn’t quite capture. Hint: even Disney’s own Web site sometimes gets this one wrong (we assume that the signage on the attraction is the authority).
The only other possibilities I can come up with is that perhaps Indiana Jones Adventure should include Temple of the Forbidden Eye. Or maybe Haunted Mansion should be The Haunted Mansion. I’ve only been to Disneyland twice, so I’m kinda grasping at straws here. 🙂
The corrections to wrong attactions listed on about.com are Toy Story Midway Mania, and “it’s a small world”. I’m not so sure about the latter, but I’m just covering my bases. I do know that the Midway part is often left out of the name of the former, as is the case here.
Tyler — that’s the closest so far, but still not quite what we’re looking for. Anyone else?
Toy Story Midway Mania!
“it’s a small world”
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
How about this then:
Toy Story Midway Mania!
“it’s a small world”
Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye
That should be the correct list, though I didn’t see Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on the list…
Soarin’ Over California
Location: New Orleans Square
I don’t think so. Try California Adventure. Doesn’t belong on this list.
Oh and Toy Story Mania! is also in California Adventure and not Disneyland. And “it’s a small world” is the other mistake.
Toy Story Midway Mania!
“it’s a small worldâ€Â
Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye
Soarin’ Over California Location: New Orleans Square Disneyland
and
THE Haunted Mansion (according to the sign on the ride)
Toy Story Midway Mania!
“it’s a small world”
Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye
Soarin’ Over California, Location: DCA
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
…and this may or may not count, but they say that Turtle Talk with Crush is Toy Story-themed, where it is actually Finding Nemo-themed.
