You may have heard that the minimum height restriction for Disneyland’s Splash Mountain has been raised from 40 inches to 60 inches, but what most people don’t know is the reasoning behind this increase. Apparently, park management is worried that the attraction may inspire guests to attempt to view its inspiration — the 1946 tribute to racism, sexism, child endangerment, and the joys of revisionist history, Song of the South — and the new height restriction is intended to make sure that anyone so inspired will be old enough to be able to handle the film if they do manage to locate a copy in a foreign country or movie-pirating Web site.
